Animal Neuro-Myofascial Release (ANMR) is a technique to release the soft tissues (predominantly muscles and fascia). It gives specific neurologic input using a specialised tool which applies movement into the joint segment and/or associated tissues (quicker than my hands can).
It addresses any areas of neurological miscommunication between the brain and the joints of the animal by re-establishing communication and allowing the body to align and balance itself, the quick movement of the tool causes a reflexive relaxation of the muscles surrounding the joint directly releasing spasms or trigger points in the muscles as well as releasing fascia to allow proper movement and decrease any associated pain.
The tool used is a CAT tool (chiropractic adjusting tool) and applies varying levels of pressure and is used to both stimulate the nervous system and release the soft tissues affecting a joint. This is NOT a chiropractic technique but allows the body to align itself wherever there may be ‘dysfunction’ in a joint.
Any areas of ‘dysfunction’ indicate a decrease of communication between the nervous system and the tissues associated with that area and are identified using the tool resulting in a pathological reflex or involuntary twitch meaning the horse has no control over it.
Effectively the aim of ANMR is to eliminate or decrease this reflex thereby restoring communication between the brain and joints and allowing the body to align itself.
Most horses will be relaxed following an ANMR session with increased range of movement. It varies between horses how many sessions are required.
ANMR can be used on all horses and even small animals such as dogs.
